The day is finally here!!! Great excitement in the Astridge family after a very busy few weeks of work and school assessments for the kids we are packed with bags full of safari appropriate Colours and ready for our next adventure to Kenya and Tanzania.
This trip on Qatar flying 7 hours from Singapore to Doha with a two hour transit with our connection to Nairobi. What would usually be a four hour flight is six due to the air space over Saudi Arabia being closed.
Within two minutes of taxiing towards the terminal Emma spotted her first zebra and antelope along the the perimeter fence of the taxiways. We’re in Africa baby!
Nairobi Airport with hints of faded grandeur is being upgraded so the arrival hall is a temporary building.. although we think the temporary building may have been here so long it’s permenant.
We were met by Charles our guide for our short drive to the “Embassy” side of town. Driving along the roads very reminiscent of Delhi, India, lots of people in very colourful dress.
Our home for the next two night the Swiss Hotel Mount Lavania. Recently renovated the style a little confused between Asian and Middle Eastern!
To avoid our impending jet lagged Craig organsised for us to go to the nearby Fairmont Norfolk Hotel built 1904 (very similar in feel to the Raffles Hotel in Singapore) for a champagne birthday brunch! It is a lovely venue with some amazing food and jazz trio playing us through the afternoon. A Nairobi must do!
After four hours of drinking and eating our body weight and kicking off the family UNO championship we rolled back to the hotel to keep awake a few more hours before jet lagged claimed us for the night with dreams of the big five we may encounter tomorrow!!!
